    Default Pete rehomed cockato

Thursday we went to Bird Paradise and bought Pete a bigger cage. The cage Pete was given to us was real small. Bob put the cage together as Pete was watching. He kept hoppying around on his play gym. Pete is very noisey with his screams. The screams were louder than Ozzy our blue and gold!

Since he is in the new cage we have a new personality. Pete has not screamed since Thursday, and our greys have investagated the new cage when Pete is out and likewise Pete went in the greys cage.

Their cage is partialy next to Pete's. I truley feel bad for this bird. I thought when Pete came to us was a outdoor cage as we always seen him. I guessed wrong. This poor bird was actually living in that cage!

Now I have to help Ozzy to accept Pete. Its been hard getting Ozzy out on his playstand whether Pete is out or not. Pete has his own as we went to BP shortly after Pete came to us. So Ozzy has his stand and Pete has his so for what ever reason Ozzy will not get along. Ozzy's cage is in the opposite direction and room than Pete's. Hopefully it would get better.

Anybody with a screaming bird understands how we feel seeing a much happier bird. I wish I could know the history of this bird. I cryed when I saw Pete investigate his new cage and listend to noices from Pete that I never heard before.

This is why I dislike people. Why do people take on the care of the bird and stick them in corners? Sad.

Great news about Pete!! I am so happy that he feels so much better and happier in his new cage. Yes, I know all about the Too scream! But when you see the joy in thier faces and the fun they are having it makes it all worth while!
The only this I can tell you about trying to get the two birds to like eachother is, unfortunately it may never happen. If I don't feel comfortable with someone, I don't hang around them. Same goes with birds. You can't force a friendship. It may eventually happen over time and you have to be so careful that either bird does not hurt the other in the transition. Take it slow with Ozzy as it was his house first. Let him decide how he wants to proceed.

    What Judy said!

They each have their own play stand, just put them there.
I have 11 birds here, and only 2 sets can be perched together (Ollie/Gabby (U2)) (Jasper/Scarlet (Conure))

I'm glad Pete is happy ! My Ziggy came with a small cage I don't know how he lived in it. Ziggy gets along with the girls but his old ways come around and he wants nothing to do with them. ( Male thing ) Just keep a close eye on them at all times.

You have a wonderful heart for changing the life of this bird. He will be so much happier now. That's amazing that he will get to have a new cage to live in now.

So glad to hear that Pete is a happy bird!!

I believe that it's mostly because like with dogs, people don't do their research. They often buy on impluse because the dog/parrot is pretty (or in the case of some parrots because they can talk). Then when they figure out how much work they are, how messy, loud, etc - it's not fun anymore. It is sad - and that's something I always stress to people who ask me about what kind of dog they should get (and now parrots). Do. Your. Research.

Give it time it could take a 3 months or longer for the two of them to tolerate each other and it may take longer for them to be friends, and they may never be friends. But give them time to adjust, this is a new white fluffy thing coming into Ozzys space.
Put ozzy and pete both on their play stands, go to Ozzy first before going to Pete, to show him he has not been replaced.
I am so glad he loves his new cage!
